St. Maarten – Nagico Insurances launched its 2016 calendar, entitled My Heritage, My Culture – a compilation of art submitted by students from across the Caribbean, two (2) of whom are from St. Maarten and attend the St. Maarten Academy.

“We always try to feature something local in our calendars to market our island, especially since our calendars are circulated throughout the Caribbean in the nineteen territories in which we operate and beyond,” Jr. marketing manager Lisa Brown explained in a press statement. “But this 2016 edition is very special to us and we are extremely proud of it because of the effort, hard work and pride placed into it by the students from scores of high schools across the region.”

The concept of the calendar pays homage to the heritage and culture of each island in which Nagico Insurances operates. “We launched an art competition in February this year, within schools, challenging students to paint or draw in their own interpretation what heritage and culture means to them,” Brown explained. “The feedback was tremendous, so we asked our local representatives in those islands to select their top three choices and submit them to our head office. The pieces were simply amazing, making our final selection very hard. However, in the end twelve students and their pieces were chosen and are now featured in our wall and desk calendars, along with a full size picture of the winner and mention of their school.”

The two local winners are Carina Alcin of Class 3A1 and Tracey Aloma of Form 3A2 of the St. Maarten Academy.

“We want to congratulate these two young ladies on their accomplishments and HOPE that they will continue to hone their talents as they grow and strive for higher heights,” Nagico Insurances CEO Dwayne Elgin said. “Nagico remains committed to our promise of always being there as social partners in our communities as we do our part in helping to strengthen the frame work of our island by creating opportunities for our young people to achieve their goals.”
